G'at - a refugee in his country

Mr. G'at, is a descendent of a Palestinian family which came originally from a village name "TSubarin"  situated near Binyamina.

During the independence war in 1948, the people of the village escape, because of the battles between the Arab armies and the Jewish force. Most of them left the country to Syria and Lebanon, but G'at father found shelter in the village Bartha, a couple of km. away.

Tsubarin village has being destroy during the war, so G'at father had no choice but to start a new life in Bartha. As an iron man he had good success in business and build a decent home and life in Bartha.

Mr. Rafat Kabaha said that Mr. G'at and his family are totally integrated in Bartha and that most of  the people from Bartha don't know the story of G'at family. The students of Bartha were also surprised by the story.

One of the students ask Mr. G'at if he is angry about what happened to his family in the past. Mr. G'at said that his father was angry but he is angrier than his father. Another student asked him about his children, which are totally integrated in the place, if they also feel this anger. Mr. G'at said that his children are angrier than him and will never forgive or forget the loss of the land.

- ספר לי קצת על הילדות שלך בלוב ?יהדות לוב היא חמה, מגובשת וציונית.

- ספר לי עליך, איך היית כילד ? הייתי ילד טוב בבית, וילד רחוב בחוץ, כמו ילדי המלחמה, מוכר סיגריות, מוכר קוניאק, מוכר תה בשוק השחור. מה שבא ליד, העיקר להביא פרנסה הביתה.

- מה זה מוכר קוניאק, באיזה גיל היית ?בן עשר.

- מאיפה היית מביא קוניאק ?

מיהודים שהיו עושים עראק, קוניאק, ליקר, הייתי מוכר לחיילים מהצבא הגרמני ואח"כ לחיילים מהצבא האנגלי, מהצבא האמריקאי והאוסטרלי, הם היו הקונים הכי טובים. מזה התפרנסנו. בתקופת המלחמה, ההורים שלנו עברו לכפר הערבי, בעיר אי אפשר היה  לחיות עשרים וארבע שעות ביממה, היו הפצצות, האנגלים היו מפציצים את לוב, יותר נכון את טריפולי. אנחנו גרנו ליד הנמל והיינו הקורבנות של ההפצצות.

- לאיזה כפר עברתם ?

כפר ערבי עשרה ק"מ מטריפולי, מה שמעניין שעברנו לכפר ליד מחנות צבאיים ולא פחדנו כמו שפחדנו בעיר, בעיר היו מפציצים עשרים וארבע שעות, להקה של פצצות הולכת ובאה אחרת. אנשים התרגלו לזה.

- איפה למדת בטריפולי ?

למדתי בביה"ס איטלקי מבוקר עד הצהרים. בצהרים אכלנו ארוחת צהרים, שחקנו בחוץ ונחנו חצי שעה. אחר הצהרים, הלכנו ללמוד תורה ובערב למדנו עברית.

- בן כמה היית כשהפסקת ללמוד ?

התחלתי ללמוד כמו בארץ, בגיל הגן , הפסקתי ללמוד בגיל עשר בגלל המלחמה.

- ספר לי על המכירות ?

המכירות הן סיכון, בן אדם יורד העירה עם כסף, לא יודע אם יחזור עם הכסף ובכלל שיחזור, אם לא יכניסו אותו לבית הסוהר.

- מי ?

המשטרה, אם בזמן האיטלקים, המשטרה האיטלקית, אפילו הגסטפו.

- היה גסטפו בטריפולי ?

כן, זו היתה מחלקה מיוחדת לאזרחים, לקחו את כל בני האזור , שהיו נתינים בריטים, כמו אחותי ובעלה, או נתינים צרפתיים, שהועברו לטוניס. את אחותי הביאו לאיטליה ומשם למחנה ריכוז ברגן בלזן ולעוד מחנה, שאני לא זוכר את שמו. הם היו שם שנה וכמה חודשים.

- בן כמה היית בזמן המלחמה?

הייתי בן עשר , אני זוכר שהמלחמה התחילה בשבת בשעה שלוש, באו המפציצים הצרפתיים דווקא, הפציצו את העיר, קודם את הנמל ואת חברת החשמל. אנחנו גרנו ליד הנמל. הפצצות נפלו ליד הבית שלנו, מאחורינו, מקדימה, כל הרחוב היה חורבות.

אבא שלי ז"ל החליט שאי אפשר להמשיך ככה ולקח אותנו  לכפר.

אבא שלי לא יכול היה לחזור העירה, לא היה  לו מה לעשות שם. אני, בתור ילד הייתי לוקח רכבת  וקדימה. התחלתי לקנות לחם מהפועלים שעובדים בנמל, כמו אצלנו אחרי הצבא, מילואים.הם אנשים מבוגרים שעובדים בנמל ומקבלים לחם, אוכלים שם, בערב מקבלים עוד לחם ומוכרים את הלחם לקנות בירה. אנחנו הילדים היינו קונים מהם והיינו מוכרים הלאה, ובסוף משאירים שניים- שלושה לחמים הביתה. זה הרווח שלנו. אז, העסק מתחיל להתרחב, סיגריות, קפה. קפה לא היה, היינו לוקחים חומוס עם ציקוריה ושמים קצת קפה למעלה. הגרמנים היו קונים, ימח שמם, היה להם פטנט הכי טוב, הקצין עם האפסנאי שלו, או שליש, מישהו איתו, סמל,שואל אותך...אתה היית אומר לא, הוא היה לוקח הכל ואתה מחכה לכסף, הסמל היה מוציא דולר ונותן, לפעמים הוא היה טועה לרעתו, הקצין היה אומר לו "נוח, נוח" (תן לו עוד). את הכסף הזה היינו מביאים הביתה.

הסכנה הייתה שאם תופס אותך שוטר איטלקי,חצי נחמה,  לוקח ממך את הכל, בקושי חי, אומר לך שלום, ולפעמיים אומר נתראה. הגרמני לוקח אותך ומביא אותך לתחנה, מרביצים, חוקרים מה, מו ובסוף משחררים. לוקחים לך הכל ומזהירים אותך אל תעשה דבר כזה. אנחנו היינו מסתובבים במקום מסוכן,שם היו חושבים שנשלחנו ע"י מישהו, כאילו אנחנו מרגלים.

- אתם ידעתם מה קורה באירופה ?

לא, קבלנו מכתבים מאחותי כרגיל. רק בשנת 1944 ידענו.

- מתי עזבת את לוב ?

אני עזבתי את לוב פעמיים. פעם אחת נסעתי לבנגזי, חשבתי להגיע ארצה דרך מצרים, לא יצא, הגעתי למדבר ושם אין עם מי לדבר.

פעם שניה, שיחדתי את האחראי על המטבח באוניה, שייקח אותי לאיטליה, אמרתי לו תקבל, נניח 1000 דולר אם תביא אותי לאיטליה, בתנאי אחד, תקבל 500 דולר פה עכשיו, ו- 500 דולר כשאגיע. לקחתי אותו ליוסף נחיאסי ז"ל הוא יתן לך, אם תתן לו מכתב עם חתימה שלי כשתחזור ללוב. כל חודש, האוניה הפליגה ללוב מאיטליה. כך זה היה.

הייתי באוניה עם הפליטים שחזרו לאיטליה, הכניסו אותי לחדר מכונות, שם היה הפחם, כשנכנס מישהו, עשיתי את עצמי זורק פחמים, עושה תנועות "כאילו".

הגענו לנאפולי, כל הפליטים האיטלקיים ירדו, האונייה היתה ריקה. פחדתי שהמשטרה תעלה ותבדוק, תמיד המשטרה בודקת אחרי  שיורדים ועולים. ירדתי, האיטלקי, הטבח הראשי ראה אותי מרחוק, אומר לי, צועק "חכה רגע" ואני רץ להתרחק מהאונייה. בא שומר של הנמל לוקח אותי בחולצה ושואל אותי מה אתה עושה פה, אמרתי לו "אבא, אמא", התחלתי לקשקש לו באיטלקית, אמר לי ילד, זה לא המקום שלך פה, לך !

לקח אותי והוציא אותי מהנמל, זו היתה שמחה עם מכה בישבן.

- בן כמה היית ?

בן 16

אכלת באונייה ?

לחם עם לחם, היה באונייה מקרוני בשר עם כל מיני טרפות.

- כמה זמן היית באונייה ?

עשרה ימים. יכולתי לצאת מחדר המכונות רק עם האחראי על המטבח לנשום אויר. מים היו מביאים לי ולחם יבש, הייתי טובל במים, אוכל ושותה.

- הגעת לאיטליה, מה עשית ?

הגעתי לאיטליה, לרומא, היתה לי כתובת, שלקחתי בטריפולי ממישהו שכיוון אותי. בזמנו, היו הרבה פליטים שהסתובבו, לא היתה בעיה, אף אחד לא הסתכל עליי. לקחתי מונית, בקשתי מהנהג להגיע לכתובת שהיתה לי ביד. הגעתי לשם, הזדהתי, אמרו לי קח אוטובוס, סע לפיזה, החווה נמצאת שני ק"מ מפיזה, בטיבולי, ושם יש הכשרה, וככה היה.

באותו יום ישנתי ברחוב, למחרת בבוקר, לקחתי אוטובוס לפיזה ושם לקחתי עוד אוטובוס פנימי והגעתי לכפר ההכשרה, קראו למקום "תל ברושים", שאלתי בכפר איפה יש ילדים יהודים, אמרו לי תלך שני ק"מ מפה ותמצא את המקום, שאלתי, שאלתי עד שהגעתי.

שם קבלו אותי יפה, היו עוד פליטים מאיטליה וכמה מטריפולי, בחווה עבדנו, למדנו ואכלנו.

פתאום הגיע שליח של ההגנה באיטליה וביקש מתנדבים, אני הייתי בין הראשונים שהתנדבו, למחרת נסענו לרומא, אחרי יום הגענו לסקולא קטורנה, מקום של פליטים. אמרו לנו, שבו פה. אחרי יום, ראינו את החברים שלנו שלא התנדבו, נוסעים ארצה. כל כך בכינו מהתנדבות הזו, אנחנו התנדבנו ונשארים פה, הם לא התנדבו ונוסעים ארצה, זה העיק עלינו, התחלנו לצעוק, אמרו לנו שלא נדאג שאנחנו נגיע לארץ.

לקחו אותנו לברי בדרום איטליה, מחנה גדול, ריק, אמרו לנו אנחנו נעשה פה אימונים, עוד יבואו עשרות ומאות פליטים, אתם תהיו הראשונים, תארגנו את המחנה וככה היה.

ארגנו את המחנה, כשהגיעו הפליטים הראשונים, בקשו ממני שאני אדאג ללחם, שאלתי את חנה סירני הבת של אנצו סירני, כמה יגיעו, אמרה  מאה גג, שאלתי כמה להזמין, אמרה תזמין מאה , מה יש, כל אחד יאכל לחם, יש הרבה אוכל, ריבה, לא חסר.

הזמנתי מאה לחמים, שמתי אותם על השולחן, תוך חצי שעה לא היה, התחילו לצעוק "לחם" "לחם" צלצלתי שיביאו עוד מהכפר, המאפיה היתה בכפר, הביאו עוד מאה, הלכו כולם. שאלתי יהודי מבוגר, מדבר בעברית כבדה, למה למאה איש, מאתיים לחמים לא הספיקו, אתה רוצה להגיד שאכלו הכל, הוא אמר לי אתה עוד לא יודע מה זה מחנות, אמרתי לו אני יודע, אבל לא בצורה כזו. אמרתי לו תן עצה, הוא אמר לי אתה יודע מה, תזמין חמש מאות לחמים, נבהלתי, מה זה רכוש של אבא שלי, שאני אזמין חמש מאות לחמים. הזמנתי ארבע מאות, בהתחלה, שלוש מאות לחמים, אחרי חצי שעה עוד מאה. מאז הלחם היה על השולחן, כל יום מאה לחמים, לפעמים ליומיים והכל היה בסדר.

הגיעו מדריכים מהארץ והתחלנו ללמוד התעמלות,  קפ"פ , תרגילי סדר, ריצה,  איזה חודש ימים. אלה שגמרו את הקורס העבירו אותם ארצה. בחרו כמה שיישארו ויהיו מדריכים, אותי השאירו, הייתי גבוה ורזה, ילד בן 17 , הסתובבתי כבר שנה בהכשרה באיטליה.

נתנו לי כתה, תלמד אותם רובה. הוצאנו מהסליק רובה, דבר ראשון שהיינו עושים, להעמיד את כולם בשורה ולזרוק את הרובה מי שתופס אותו טוב, אז הוא בסדר, מי שלא תופס שמים אותו בצד, מחלקים אותם לשתי קבוצות, אלה שהוכיחו את עצמם ואלה שלא. שאלתי אחד, גבוה, בריא, אתה סיפרת יום לפני, שהיית פרטיזן, היית ביערות, היית בצבא הרוסי, זורקים לך רובה ואני אין לי כוח כמוך, לא יכולת לתפוס, מה אמר לי, תביא קטיושה, אני אראה לך מה זה, טוב אמרתי לו סע לרוסיה תביא קטיושה ותלמד אותי.

 ככה התחלנו ללמד אותם עד שגמרנו את הקורס. חלק לקחו אותם להעפלה, חלק לקניית נשק. אני נשארתי במחנה לקבל עוד עולים.

שבועיים לפני קום המדינה ארגנו אונייה עם פספורטים מזויפים.

דרך אגב הג'וינט היה בא פעם בחודשיים שלושה, רושם את האנשים שבמחנה. מה היינו עושים? מכינים לאנשים פתקאות, היום קוראים לך יוסף בן משה, מחר דוד בן יצחק, עוד סיבוב, מחליפים לך את השם, אני הייתי עובר עשר-שתיים-עשרה פעמים, הכל כדי שנקבל עוד אוכל ובגדים.

שבועיים לפני קום המדינה, בקשו שנארגן 250-300 איש, יש לידינו מחנות, התחלנו לרשום, צריכים להיות בחורים צעירים, ההוראות היו שהם צריכים ללכת ישר לצבא, אח"כ קראו לנו גח"ל, אמרנו בסדר. ארגנו 300 איש. לא נמצא מי שיהיה מפקד האונייה, מי שהיה צריך להיות, הוא נעלם, נסע לצפון איטליה. אמרו מה הבעיה, יוסקה יקח את הפיקוד, אמרתי איזה פיקוד, אני בים בקושי זז. אז בקיצור היה עוד אחד ישראלי, אמר לי אתה יודע מה, תהיה הסגן שלי, נהיה שותפים.

הגענו ארצה, הבריטים לא רצו לתת לנו לרדת, הגענו ב- 14.5.48 , הצטרכנו לחכות עד הבוקר, הבריטים היו עוד בחיפה, אפילו שירדנו ב- 15.5.48 סנטלוקס, היינו צריכים להגיע לת"א, סנטלוקס היו בריטים, היה מחסום, לא נתנו לנו לעבור, עברנו בכוח. אמרתי לסמל שלהם מה אתה עושה,יש מדינת ישראל, באנגלית רצוצה כזו, הוא אמר לי רק רגע, הרים אוקי טוקי למפקד שלו,האם ניתן להם לעבור, זה שלהם היום, היום כולנו מסתלקים מפה, נתנו לנו לעבור.

הייתי בן 17 וחצי, מהאונייה ישר לצבא, לחולדה, היתה התקפה שלא הצליחה, בקושי הגענו  והחזירו אותנו למחנה בתל אביב, היום ביה"ח "הקריה". משם שלחו אותנו לצפון,כשהגענו לטבריה ירו עלינו מצמח, הצטרכנו ללכת 4-5 ק"מ ברגל ולדחוף את האוטובוס, הנהג אמר שהאוטובוס מקולקל, פחד להישאר לבד, אין הגיון, אם מקולקל, למה הוא נוסע.  בקיצור, הגענו לראש פינה, אותי  ועוד שלושה חבר'ה העבירו למשגב עם. למשגב עם עולים פעם ביום עם פרדות. חיכינו עד הערב ועלינו עם הפרדות. נשארנו שבועיים, בקשו אותנו מהגדוד השלישי או הראשון של יפתח, לקחו את כל החבר'ה מהקיבוצים, הגענו למחנה פילון.  היו לנו בעיות עם הפלמ"ח, חשבנו שאחרי ששרנו שירים של הפלמ"ח, הגענו למקום, אבל ישר שמו אותנו לעבוד בחדר האוכל, אמרתי, בסדר. אחרי שלושה ימים, אמרו לנו אתם תעבדו בחדר האוכל, לקחו את הגבוהים האחרונים בשורה, אני אמרתי לחבר'ה לא להיכנע, אם זה שוויון, אז כולם צריכים לעבוד בחדר אוכל, בקיצור, קראו לנו לרס"ר והוא לקח אותי למ"פ, אמר, אלה מסרבים פקודה, אמרתי מה מסרבים פקודה, רצינו לדעת אם זה כמו בהכשרה באיטליה, היתה תורנות, חוץ מהמפקדים, הוא אמר לי מה זה איטליה, מה אתה מבלבל את המוח, אתה מדבר עברית יותר טוב ממני, אמרתי לו שאנחנו הגענו לארץ רק לפני כמה ימים, שבועיים וכמה, בהתחלה הוא לא האמין. התחלנו לדבר, מה אתה רוצה, אמרתי לא בשביל זה באתי ארצה, יכולתי לשלוח לכם טבח,שאל: איך היית שולח, אמרתי לו, אנחנו יכולים לשלוח לך כמה טבחים שאתה רוצה, אנחנו באנו להלחם, אמר, תגיד לחבר'ה שלך, שטבח זה חשוב, אמרתי אפילו לטאטא את המחנה זה חשוב, אבל צריכה להיות תורנות. בסוף אמר, תעבדו יומיים –שלושה ואז נחליף אתכם, אמרתי לו, אני לא, נזכרתי שהיה אחד באיטליה שהיו לו אמבות, הרופא אמר לנו אל תכניסו אותו למטבח. אמרתי למפקד יש לי אמבות, שאל, מה זה אמבות, אמרתי לו תולעים, שלא רואים, שמדביקים. קרא לאחות, גם היא לא ידעה. בקיצור, שלחו אותי לרופא בטבריה. הרופא שאל מה יש לך, אמרתי לו אני בריא, לא רוצה גימ"לים ,כבר למדנו מה זה, מה אתה רוצה? אמרתי לו, דוקטור יש לי אמבות, שאל איך אתה יודע, אמרתי אמרו לי בחו"ל, אמר שאינו יודע אם זה מסוכן או לא, הוא לא בקיא באמבות, אמרתי לו שזה רק מדביק במטבח ובנוחיות, בנוחיות של הצבא אין בעיה, רק במטבח. בקיצור נתן לי פתק שאסור לי לעבוד במטבח, שמרתי את הפתק הזה עד סוף הצבא.

- איפה היית בצבא ?

טוביה מרסל ז"ל היה בראש פינה, שאלנו אותו אם הוא מוכן לקבל אותנו, אמר לנו בואו. לקח משוריין הכניס אותנו, את מי שלא רצה להישאר עם הפלמ"ח. אני זוכר את גנדי ז"ל, היה סמל באילת השחר, שאלנו מה זה גנדי, הוא מהודו ?

הקמנו את גדוד 91 . לפלוגה שלנו קראו "מרסל", מרסל היה משהו מיוחד. אחרי הקרב חזרנו, מקלחת, אוכל, מסדר "פודרה", כולם שוכבים ואיפה שיש שערות שמים פודרה, אף אחד לא העז לסרב אצלו, אין סירוב פקודה, מי שמסרב מרסל לוקח את הבן אדם מרים אותו חצי מטר ומנענע אותו, החיל אומר בסדר, הכל אני אעשה.

עד שההפוגה השלישית התחילה, הכריזו על שביתת נשק, המלחמה נגמרה.
